Residents of Buckshaw Village have been strengthening their bond with local community station, Radio Leyland, as they come together to celebrate the power of radio. The station, a favourite among many locals, has long been a source of entertainment, companionship, and community spirit, with residents frequently tuning in to enjoy their favourite shows.
This week, in the lead-up to World Radio Day, the village welcomed Radio Leyland presenters Linda and Geoff, who provided a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the world of broadcasting. Residents had the opportunity to learn about the dedication and teamwork that go into both live and recorded radio shows—from selecting the perfect playlist to handling technical operations and conducting engaging interviews. The event was a chance not only to understand the inner workings of radio but also to chat about favourite songs, singers, and bands.
World Radio Day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the enduring importance of radio, and for the residents of Buckshaw, it was a meaningful reminder of the role it plays in their lives. Some regularly send in requests for their favourite songs, eagerly waiting to hear them played on air while enjoying the moment with friends over a cup of tea. Others have had the exciting opportunity to get involved firsthand.
In a special treat, some residents even took part in recorded chats with Linda, sharing their own stories and memories. They are now looking forward to tuning in on Tuesday to hear their conversations featured on “Magic Moments.” The anticipation of hearing their own voices on air has added to the excitement, making this experience even more special.
Events like these highlight the importance of local radio, not just as a source of entertainment but as a powerful tool for community engagement. As Buckshaw Village prepares to celebrate World Radio Day, it’s clear that their connection with Radio Leyland is stronger than ever—bringing people together through the shared joy of broadcasting.
A huge thank you to Linda and Geoff for a wonderful afternoon filled with music and memories! 🎙️🎶😊
