Celebrating D-Day at Buckshaw

Scroll Down

At Buckshaw, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a series of heartfelt activities that brought our community together to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom. Residents engaged in reminiscence sessions, sharing their personal stories and reflections on the wartime era, accompanied by nostalgic songs that filled the home with a sense of history and remembrance.

A highlight of the celebrations was the visit from local school children, which fostered intergenerational connections and provided an opportunity for our residents to share their experiences with the younger generation. Additionally, we were honored by a visit from the deputy mayor and mayoress, whose presence underscored the significance of the occasion.

A beautiful and poignant tribute was created with over 1,430 crocheted poppies, donated and used to decorate the grounds. This stunning display served as a visual reminder of the sacrifices made and the enduring gratitude we hold for those who served.

These activities not only honored the courage and sacrifice of those involved in the D-Day Landings but also strengthened our sense of community and shared history at Buckshaw. We are proud to celebrate this important day and remember the heroes who fought for our freedom.
