Residents and employees from The Grange recently joined HICA in a large cycling fundraising event to raise money for the SHINE Fund, which exists to improve the life of people who receive services from HICA.
The fundraising event saw over 75 people from across Buckshaw Retirement Village and the HICA Group attempt to virtually cycle 1,750 miles, the equivalent of the distance from Lands’ End to John O Groats and back in 24 hours. Although they narrowly missed the target, reaching 1,620 miles, their efforts managed to raise over £1,600.
Dubbed ‘Tour De HICA’ each member of staff took it in turns to complete at least two miles each. Some of the team completed over 90 miles each including HICA’s CEO, Terry Peel, as everyone tried their best to reach the target.
The event was held at HICA’s head office in Hessle and saw employees come together from all of HICA’s homes including The Birches, Elm Tree, The Hollies, Isaac Robinson Court, Raleigh Court and the HICA at Home-Hulll. As well as The Grange, other employees and residents joined in the challenge remotely using cycling equipment at their location including Overton House in Cottingham and HICA at Home in Grimsby and Kirkgate House in Bridlington.
Terry Peel, CEO, HICA Group, said: “What a wonderful day we had in our efforts to raise for our SHINE fund, which is used to help pay for specific experiences and activities for our residents.
“Every single employee gave their all to cycle as much as they could, as fast as they could. They showed determination, spirit, passion and worked tirelessly throughout the 24 hours.
“We have an incredibly dedicated team, and I am pleased we were able to raise such a large amount in a small space of time. Well done, team HICA.”
The event also included family members of HICA employees and residents as well as local football club Orchard Park AFC, which HICA sponsors
