The Wilberforce community, one of four communities to found in The Lodge, the specialist dementia home at Buckshaw Retirement Village are proud to announce the official launch day of their brand new Sensory Retreat.

The retreat is a dedicated area within the community designed to improve the health and wellbeing of residents by reducing anxieties and stimulating interactions and engagements through a range of therapeutic activities

On the launch day itself they will be showcasing how Wilberforce embraces new technologies in their drive to make a positive difference to the lives of the people who live on the community. Among the technology that will be being showcased is the Virtual Reality equipment which has already proven t be a valuable tool to calm agitated residents, rekindle long-forgotten memories and has even lead previously uncommunicative patients to speak again.

The Lodge Manager, Julie Stringfellow said, “We continue to strive to improve the living environment for all the communities at The Lodge. The Sensory Retreat is a lovely space to relax in and engage in fun but meaningful activities. We are positive that the benefits to residents will be far-reaching.”

If you would like to come and see the Sensory Retreat the launch day is on Thursday 30th May from 2-4pm. There will be refreshments available and the Café and pub in the Market Square will be open for business where there will also be some entertainment.
